Credentials and Professional Experience

Carolyn Moreland is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) who has worked in many counseling settings. She received her Bachelor of Science in Education in Educational Psychology, Master of Education in Rehabilitation Counseling, and Specialist in Education in School Counseling from the University of Georgia. She has worked in a variety of counseling settings that include a vocational rehabilitation facility, public schools (elementary, middle, and high schools), early intervention public health program, community service board crisis support home and mobile crisis team member, community service board crisis stabilization for Adults and Children and Adolescents (C&A), and in a military installation working with adults and children. She is also a registered neutral and works with persons in the court system of Georgia.

Carolyn is a believer of dealing with issues in a straightforward manner to help individuals recognize and set goals to eliminate or lessen problems. She uses principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist with recognizing unhelpful thinking and behavior and helps individuals learn better ways to cope with problems. Although discussing past issues is helpful in getting to know an individual and what has led to the issues, goal setting and what needs to be done now is encouraged for individuals in counseling. In some instances, Reality Therapy is used to discuss responsibility for one’s own actions and making good choices. Clients are encouraged to imagine their lives in a happy state and then work to achieve that goal. A frequent question of Carolyn is, “What would you like to see happen as a result of being here today?” Solution-Focused Therapy is used to help guide individuals to formulate a solution and determine the best way to get there. Clients are encouraged to take responsibility for their issues and work proactively with Carolyn to set goals that they can achieve.
