She earned a Bachelors of Art Degree in Art and Psychology and a Masters of Education Degree in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Counseling from the University of Montevallo in Montevallo, Alabama.

Donna has been a mental health provider for 15 years and has served in a wide variety of educational and counseling settings. In the past, Donna was a provider for the Department of Human Resources (DHR) in Alabama offering individual, couple, family and group counseling to at risk families and children in foster care and protective services. She completed a counseling practicum and internship with SafeHouse of Shelby County, Alabama, a domestic violence shelter for women and children. Donna trained and certified with the Crisis Center in Birmingham, Alabama to effectively provide counseling services to survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, crisis intervention services and suicide risk and prevention. Her most recent counseling experience has been in an educational setting with children and their families experiencing difficulty in functioning due to emotional behavioral disorders, autism, ADD/ADHD, depression, school and social anxiety, mood disorders, family dynamics and environmental stressors.

Donna believes in a person centered counseling model that addresses the client and families as unique individuals that require recognition and respect by meeting them where they are in their own process. An eclectic approach to counseling is usually employed, depending on client needs, and may vary from Solution Focused Therapy for clients that need streamlined approach to issues to a Cognitive Behavioral approach with those seeking to change thought patterns and behavior, to interactive Play Therapy with young children and a Family Systems approach to those with familial issues. These approaches and other models may be utilized along with a core Existential Therapeutic philosophy that all human beings have purpose and meaning within themselves that is waiting to be discovered.
