Clara grew up in a wealthy but unhappy family. Each afternoon, when her father’s large, black car pulled up in the driveway, she and her sister ran to their rooms and did not come out until dinner. A successful and driven corporate executive, Mr. Eddins brought his high stress level, his frustrations, and his anger home with him every evening. He was verbally abusive to his wife and daughters. His wife was never satisfied with herself or the young girls. During dinner, Mr. Eddins did not allow anyone to speak. The tension in the house was constant and unbearable.
