Credentials and Professional Experience:
Lana is a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and Licensed Professional Counselor. She has extensive experience in working with children, adolescents, and adults with depression, anxiety, ADHD, problematic behaviors, and issues associated with past trauma, abuse, adjustments/transitions, sexuality, gender, and family conflict. Lana is also a Distance Credentialed Counselor, which means that she has the necessary training to conduct online counseling and counseling sessions via phone. She specializes in Child Centered Play Therapy techniques, as well as Sandtray therapy. Lana completed training and supervision to become a Registered Play Therapist and a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor with the Association for Play Therapy. She is also a National Certified Counselor with the National Board of Certified Counselors and a Licensed Professional Counselor, as well as a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor in the state of Georgia.
Lana graduated from Kennesaw State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice (with a concentration in Forensic Behavioral Science) in 2004. She then graduated from the Georgia School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University of Atlanta in 2007 with a Master of Arts degree in Professional Counseling. During graduate school, Lana completed a one-year practicum at Highland Rivers in Cartersville and Cedartown, Georgia. In early 2008, Lana began working for an agency where she provided in-home/in-community counseling to children, adolescents, and adults.
Approach
Lana strives to reduce conflict within individuals and families by offering insight and providing support, encouragement, and non-judgmental acceptance and respect. She uses techniques from Art therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential theory, Family Systems theory, Play Therapy, Solution Focused, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy in her work with clients.
