Credentials and Professional Experience

Maria Halpin is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Georgia. She received a
Bachelor’s of Science in Family Studies from Miami University in Oxford, OH and a Master’s of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. Maria is also a National Certified Counselor.

Her clinical experience includes working with children, adolescents, young adults and
families. She has experience working in elementary, middle and high schools with students and their families to address mental health concerns, behavioral issues and social skills. Prior to working in the schools, she conducted individual therapy and facilitated social skills group therapy for individuals diagnosed with ADHD, social anxiety and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Additionally, Maria has experience providing therapy services to college-aged adults as well as facilitating psycho-educational groups and process groups.

Maria currently provides services to children, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

Approach

Maria’s approach in counseling is supportive and collaborative. She believes that counseling is a great opportunity to safely express thoughts and feelings, gain insight and self-awareness and to develop coping skills while working towards change and growth.

Maria places an emphasis on building a positive therapeutic relationship that is safe and non-judgmental to help achieve the individual’s goals for therapy. She draws from many treatment modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and Play Therapy techniques. Maria also enjoys using creative techniques in session such as art-based techniques, music, mindfulness, movement and play.
